The Knott County Fiscal Court developed the Knott County ATV & Motorcycle Rider Training Center in collaboration with the Safety Vehicle Institute of America, American Honda, and the Kentucky Recreational Trails Authority. Judge-Executive Randy Thompson saw the need for proper training to safely negotiate the terrain because of the large number of ATV injuries and fatalities in Kentucky. The Center is built on 10 acres donated for this purpose by the Sutton family of Knott County. The Knott County Rider Training Center is a unique facility for Kentucky and the entire United States. It is the only training facility in Kentucky that offers safety courses for ATV’s, dirt bikes, and street motorcycles. The Knott County Rider Training Center is also unique to the rest of the nation by including both a training area and skills practice course as well as beginner trails, intermediate trails, and challenge trails accessible right from the training center! Classes are being scheduled regularly. For more information please call (606)233-0080.

About The Director

Center Director, Tim Cody, has been riding motorcycles for 40 years. His passion for the sport extended into competition during the 1970’s and 80’s and he is still involved in event support. He was an official for the 2008 F.I.M. World Championship Trials event held in the United States, the first U.S. World event in many years. Cody still competes occasionally but focuses the majority of his efforts on the many safety courses offered by MSF, KMP, and the ATV Safety Institute. Tim Cody has been a RiderCoach with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the KY Motorcycle Program for 14 years. During these years Mr. Cody has also gained certification as an ATV Instructor, a Dirtbike School RiderCoach, a RiderCoach Trainer for MSF and KMP, as well as Scooter School training. Cody is one of 4 RiderCoach Trainers in the state of Kentucky who ensure that courses follow the accepted curriculum and standards of KMP and the MSF. Cody also trains interested persons to become RiderCoaches. Cody is also a 3-term member of the Motorcycle Safety Education Advisory Commission, an appointment made by the Governor of KY (Cody has been appointed by each of the last 3 Governors). The MSEAC advises state officials in areas of motorcycle safety and ensures the KY. Motorcycle Program has necessary funding to remain one of the premier programs in the nation. Cody is looking forward to offering affordable safety courses in the tri-state Appalachian region and helping KCRTC become the focal point for safety training.
